About Bonsai Information

My experience:

Taxus CuspidataI have 20+ years of experience working on Bonsai, both on deciduous and coniferous species.

Training under Danny Use (from the Bonsai Center Ginkgo, and organiser of the famous Gingko Bonsai Awards from 1995 to 2005) I learned all the steps and techniques to successfully develop a seedling of any species used for Bonsai-purposes to an attractive and mature Bonsai.  I also trained with a variety of Japanese Bonsai Masters, amongst others Takeo Kawabe and Hotsumi Terakawa.

As I gained in knowledge and experience, I became more involved in the upkeep and maintenance of the trees for sale at the Ginkgo Centre, and helping Danny in the maintenance of his top-quality trees in his private collection.

Since 2007 (having left Belgium for Scotland in 2003) I have been giving tuition to individuals and small groups.  This tuition is based on my experience and findings, focussing almost solely on the ‘steady development approach’.  All tuition is adapted to the knowledge of the student and his gardens’ local micro-climate so as to obtain maximum results in a minimum of time.

Although currently based in Scotland, I am willing to travel outside this area to spread my love, knowledge and appreciation for Bonsai.

I offer the following services:

  • Tuition
  • group (max 4 individuals / group for maximum efficiency)
  • one-to-one – either at students’ or my premises
  • Maintenance / Coaching of private collections
  • Talks / Presentations
  • Sale of untrained & semi-trained starting material (field grown or collected), up to mature (i.e. fully styled) Bonsai.
